Boy Reunites with Family After Being Sold at Birth

After 17 years of separation, Sarmad was reunited with his birth family after being sold to a foster family as an infant. Sarmad was born, one of twins, and taken from his mother and sold to a couple who was without children. The nurse who delivered Sarmad sold him for a price and told the mother she only had one child instead of twins.

“My mother insisted she had given birth to twins as her doctor had taken an ultrasound prior to admission in the hospital. The ultra sound had confirmed that my mother was bearing twins. But the attending nurse told her she had given birth to the baby boy who was in the cradle alongside her bed in the hospital,” Sarmad said as he reflected upon the story of his birth.

Sarmad’s foster parents tried to keep his birth mother out of the picture by hiding his date and location of birth from him. They recorded a false date of birth in his school records. The parents eventually split and his foster mother left the home to live with his foster grandfather who brought up Sarmad with more love and stability.

Sarmad’s life began to calm down until his foster grandfather passed. Sarmad was taken back to his foster father, but unfortunately he was not welcome. The couple argued and the father told the mother that reconciliation would only occur if Sarmad left the home. ”’Go find your parents, you are not our blood’ – these remarks from my foster parents struck me like a bolt from the blue,” Sarmad said.

Sarmad left home and found shelter at a mosque and spent days at a time without food. Then, out of the blue, a relative of his foster parents informed him of the name of his birth parents. “I do not want to disclose the name of this relative who was like an angel in my life,” Sarmad said.

Sarmad met with his birth parents after seventeen years of feeling like an outcast. “I went there and my real mother did not take a second to recognize me – her maternal instinct worked,” he said.

Sarmad’s twin brother, after coming down from a state of shock, embraced the similar-looking boy. Sarmad discovered he had two older brothers as well.

Sarmad’s mother, Amina, was certain about her son. “I do not need any DNA test to recognize my blood. He was born to me and I know he is my son,” she said. Though Amina was sure of the boy’s identity, Sarmad’s father, Muhammed Lateef, wanted to run a DNA test to confirm the genetic relationship. “In future, the question of inheritance is going to rise. I don’t want Sarmad to fight another battle with his three brothers. He has already suffered enough,” Lateef said.

Though Sarmad still loves his foster mother, he is happy to be united with his birth mother. He is prepared to take whatever test is needed to continue his new journey with his birth family.

Sarmad questioned the hospital about the illegal actions that took place 17 years ago. The doctors neglected to speak about the matter, yet one doctor spoke up. “These are just allegations without any proof. How do you expect me to react to something that happened here 17 years back?” said the anonymous doctor.

Sarmad is not interested in suing the hospital for the illegal activity. He is more concerned with getting his story out. “I want my story told so that no greedy nurse or doctor dare sell anybody’s baby in future,” he said.
